Appealing Non-Medical Social Security Denials

Los Angeles Social Security Attorneys:
Appealing Non-Medical Social Security Denials is Now Easier

Our experienced Los Angeles area Social Security attorneys have helped thousands of clients who were denied Social Security Disability. A Social Security Disability Application can be denied for either medical reasons or non-medical reasons.

If your Social Security Disability claim was denied for medical reasons, it means that: the Social Security Administration does not think you are disabled; and/or they do not believe your disability will last a year. If this is the case, discussing your case with an experienced Los Angeles area Social Security Disability attorney is highly recommended. An attorney knows how to “prove” that you are disabled and unable to work.

However, many Social Security Disability claims are denied from the “get go” for simple NON-medical reasons. For example, you may have made a simple mistake in the paperwork. Or, the SSA may think you did not work the necessary number of quarters (have sufficient “work credits”), when you actually did. Or the SSA may have your records under a different name, such as a maiden or married name. Another example of a non-medical appeal include those for overpayments and Medicare premium rates.

Appealing Non-Medical Social Security Disability Denials

If you were denied for a non-medical reason and need to re-apply for Social Security Disability the Social Security Administration has made it easier! An applicant no longer needs to visit or call an SSA office to appeal a non-medical denial or other adverse action related to your benefits.

As of December 10, 2016, applicants can file an appeal online for non-medical denials. While this is more convenient for most applicants, it is extremely beneficial for applicants who may now be living outside the United States.

The ability to file non-medical denial appeals online is part of a new technology initiative launched last year, under SSA Chief Information Officer Rob Klopp.

This technology initiative of the Obama administration was aimed at streamlining the Social Security review and appeal process, and hopefully speeding up review and decision times.

The online application for appeal of a non-medical denial also lets the claimant upload supporting documentation, as well as save a copy of their submission.

To submit a non-medical Social Security appeal online, you need:

Notice date or receipt from Social Security that explains what adverse action you wish to appeal;

Any supporting documentation you wish to add to your request for appeal.

Remember, if your appeal was denied for medical reasons, it is important that you speak with an experienced Social Security Disability attorney today. But if your denial was for non-medical (technical or income) reasons, save yourself time and expedite the decision process by filing your appeal online.
